Long delayed thanks to SP!

It’s been a while since my last package arrived, but the plague flu has put a damper on my blogging.

It was so much fun being a part of SP9. I had great fun spoiling Holly (check out the great drive she is running!) and even more fun being spoiled by Carol! Is that wrong? I know it’s better to give than to receive, but you know, receiving is fun!! I’m looking forward to SP10 now!

There was a great selection in my last package. There was a Wonder Knitter. Bunny tried it out and declared “I think it’s for five-year-olds, not four-year-olds, you can save it.” I already have a bunch of uses in mind!

There was this cool looking Dynasty Yarn. Two balls, I’m sure I will come up with something great for this!

There was also beautiful note cards and a whole bunch of notions! Buttons, ribbons, a tape measure, yarn needles, I know I’m missing things!

Finally, take a look at this! Yup, that’s Sari Silk!!! I can’t wait. Anyone know how much of this it would take to make a Claoptis? I think some people have done it and I think it would show it off so nicely.

Of course, the most popular part of the gift at our house was…

wait for it…

think, I have a pre-schooler and cats…

did you guess?

It’s the box!

Thanks Carol! You Rock!!

Little Things!

Seems my knitting of late has been concerned with little things. First there was the baby bolero and then a baby hat. The hat will be gifted at a shower today and the bolero at a shower on Feb. 3.

The first hat was so much fun I cast on right away for another! This one for a childhood friend’s newest addition. In making this one I modified the pattern a little and put in another row of eyelets.

When that was done I realized the big sister would need something and so I knit her a snake. Bunny has now requested one as well…

Then I discovered this so I signed up. I love this square pattern! and finished off my square last night. Still need to block it. I think I may use the rest of the skein (it’s Gems Pearl in baby aqua Thanks SP!) for a pair of baby socks… more little things!

I’m still working on the felted tote from One Skein, a decidedly not little thing.

Oh, one other little thing… it seems I have a little (ok maybe not so little) polyp in my uterus. The gynecologist assures me it’s not cancer, but it needs to be removed surgically. The operation will be out-patient on February 7. I never knew you needed to have so many appointments before you had an operation… at this point I’m two down, two to go.

What better to come home to than a package from my SP!

Look at all those pretty parcels!

Ok, enough looking… what’s inside?

First there are goodies, candy (both chocolate and not), candy cane tea, and the cutest little felt holiday bag.

Oh, and there’s yarn! From left to right: Patons Classic Wool in New Denim, Scheepjes Rigodon in a beautiful greenie blue, Patons Classic Wool in Rosewood, and Gems Pearl in Baby Aqua. Totally cool!! Why all the single skeins you may wonder… Why because MY SP totally rocks and got me the One Skein book!! I’m already holding the yarn she sent up with various pages in the book 🙂

But she wasn’t done there. No,not my SP. She even sent gifts for Bunny. By the time I got my camera ready the chocolate Santa was gone, but here he is hard at work on the coloring book. As he said, “Mommy, not only crayons, but sparkle stickers too!” Most certainly my SP knows 4-year-olds!

Thanks so much SP, it almost made coming home from vacation worth it. Posts to follow with (count them) four finished objects as well as photos of the tropics.

Happy New Year All! For those who are interested, the prime factorization of 2007 is 3*3*223.

Having a great SP can turn that frown upside down!

This has not been the best week… I won’t go into the low-lights becuase this post is about the highlights, my Secret Pal!

On Tuesday I got a great e-card, really cute and made me smile.

Then yesterday B said a package came for me… I brought it with me to SLK last night so that the opening would have the approprite audience! Many thanks to Amber for the photo documentary.

I arrived very excited (ok, it looks deranged, but I was going for excited!

Then the opening began…
A card, some note cards, a pocket calendar (perhaps there’s hope I will be organized in ’07), and some bubble bath.
You want to know what else? Well… Yarn of course! Beautiful Briar Rose (Tuscany I think) and she sent along a great pattern as well.

I really feel blessed to have such a great pal. Now, I have to get some things done so I can knit with this beautiful stuff!!

Thanks SP!

I have the best SP!

Guess what was waiting for me at home today?

A package… just for me!

At the top there was a card, covered with candy corn!

And there was a sweet note inside.

But below the card there was more…

Bunny asked if it was treasure (we seem to be on a pirate kick these days) and I assured him that it was!

Treasure indeed. Candy, tea, and Sugar ‘n Creme. What more could a girl want?

What a fun Halloween surprise! Orange, black, and lime green cotton makes me want to whip up pumpkin and alien dishrags. And there’s candy. Did I mention that there’s candy? I vowed that I wouldn’t eat any of till the dishwasher was loaded and this post was done. Good thing there weren’t many dishes! Hey, I went to the gym today… think I’ll have another!

Thanks SP! As my students would say, “you rock!”

SP9 Fun!

First off… just a note to all parents out there, upset stomach for a few days with no other symptoms could be strep. You would think since we went through it in June we would have figured it out in less than a week. Oh well, now the only question is who did Bunny infect while we were busy figuring out what he ate!

Now, on to SP content. A big thanks to my spoiler for the very funny Friday the 13th e-card. It was great! Finally, my hostess has a contest going, so here are some of my favorites!

Actor – Alan Alda (I know he’s a little old for me, but when I heard him speak at an ERA rally as a kid he won my heart!)

Actress – Mary Tyler Moore

Animal – cat, or maybe alpaca

Band – They Might Be Giants (mostly because of their kids albums), I also like folkey stuff…

BookIs Your Mama a Llama (can you tell what I have been reading lately?)

Bubble Bath – whatever’s handy

Candy – starburst

Color – green, no blue, no red arrrrg…. I like colors

Flower – iris

Food – steak

Lip Balm – any so long as it’s vanilla

Lotion – anything unscented

Movie – Snow White

Song – Under the Sea

TV Show -Good Eats

Vacation Spot – Disney World (is there another vacation spot?)

I found this remakably difficult… I guess I don’t have that many strong feelings, which I suppose is a mixed blessing!

SP9 Questionnaire — answers!

I have joined SP9 so have to post these answers. Since I have never managed to do 100 things, maybe you will learn something about me even if you’re not my SP!

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? I’m pretty easy to please. I like most everything except really plastic feeling acrylic. Of course I think silk is nice, and cashmere is too. But wool and cotton are good as well.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? A plastic bag from the grocery store… Well, I do have a case for my KnitPicks Options set, but the rest are all in a bag.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I have known how to knit since my grandma taught me as a kid. I have had a number of periods of intense knitting. The most recent period started about a year ago. I guess I am an intermediate, but I am always willing to try anything.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? I do right here.

5. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products, etc.) I guess vanilla. I’m not a fan of highly scented things, but do like things that make my house smell good, but not smell like I am trying.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? Totally! I like most any candy. My favorites are Starburst and Reeses, but really, if it has sugar I like it!

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I do scrapbooks and have been known to needlepoint and cross stitch. Mostly I just try to make sure my child arrives as school with a lunch every day!

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) I tend to listen to singer songwriter types or whatever B chooses. I also like folk as well as classic rock.

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand? I guess green is my favorite, but blue, red, and yellow are also in the running. Oh and I like orange and purple. I guess I like any color!

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? I live with my husband B and my 4-year-old son. We have two cats, one social and one not.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? Scarves, yes. Hats that don’t squish my head. Mittens, yep. I haven’t worn a poncho since I was a kid when they were “in” before. I worry that they will make me look dumpy (ok, make me look more dumpy) but the right one might be cool.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? Hmmm… that’s a hard one. Since I’m knitting with fine yarn now I long for bulky. I have liked doing the button hole bags I have done. I also enjoyed my first ever pair of socks. I guess I have liked everything I have done. Although the sweater for Bunny with sock yarn has gotten old!

13. What are you knitting right now? A sweater for Bunny and a moss grid hand towel. On deck are a bunch of baby gifts, a Christmas stocking, and a hat.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Sure.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? I don’t have a strong preference, but since I have bought the KnitPicks Options I am using more metal circs. I don’t have any particularly good straight needles so that might make a difference…

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? Sadly no, but I do have a friend nearby who does!

17. How old is your oldest UFO? It was started in 1996… a baby blanket, don’t ask how old the baby is now!

18. What is your favorite holiday? I think Christmas, not for the religious significance, but for the traditions, oh and the gifts!!

19. Is there anything that you collect? I collect Doc from Snow White.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? The books I really want are high priority on my Amazon list. I can’t think of anything in particular I am wanting… although I am really liking Socks that Rock stuff lately.

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn? I am trying to learn continental… knitting is going ok, purling not so much.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? Trying to be! Foot circumference (ball): 8″, length of foot 9.25″

23. When is your birthday? (mm/dd) June 25
