Good day on the knitting front…

the box opensNot because of the actual knitting, but the knitting acquisition!

First Bunny and I went to Nature’s Yarns to get soles for his slippers. On the way home from there (with a stop at Bob Evans for lunch) we stopped at Uniqities and I got the Fiber Trends pattern for the adult clogs. When we got home I set to work sewing on the soles, and discovered I just didn’t like the way they fit on the slippers and the way they looked. So, back out to Fairfax where I exchanged the soles for some yarn.

Wow, look at this loot! Not long after I got home the mail arrived with delights galore! The new shipment from The Yarn Pirate’s Booty Club, which is just great, and a box from my secret pal!! The photos on this post are all of the great package she sent that included:

  • one skein of Noro Silk Garden Sock in a blue, green, purple colorway that is just great
  • one skein of Araucania Ranco in shades of pinks
  • one skein of Scarlet Fleece Silk & Ivory in browns, pinks, and purples
  • Cookie A’s Gothic Spire pattern
  • a WHOLE LOT of SKITTLES!

It’s a great package! The yarns are all really nice and I already have ideas. The Skittles, well let’s just say the snack drawer at school will be well stocked 🙂

Skittles!!Thanks so much to Stephanie of the Knitting Nurse… we’ll have to meet up sometime since she lives nearby, and I think she works at an LYS!

PS: photos of the yarns are on my stash page on Ravelry already!

Wow! Thanks SP!

Today was one of those days when I just wasn’t all I wanted to be… Didn’t get much done around the house (we’re preparing for a yard sale this week-end) and then while I was the good mother and took Bunny to the zoo after camp, I got overly exasperated with him when we had to make not one, but two emergency potty trips up a giant hill… How is it that the zoo can be uphill both ways?

On an up note I did quite well at the Interweave Scratch and Dent sale, snagging over $200 worth of books I have been wanting for less than $100. Then the best part of all. When Bunny and I got home from the zoo there was the large, bulky envelope sticking out of the mailbox. While Bunny was disappointed that it wasn’t for him, I was thrilled, it was for me! My remarkably local SP had sent me a gift! And what a gift it is…

Thanks SP!

Feast your eyes on not one but two skeins of Classic Elite Silky Alpaca in the Apricot colorway… so soft!

Two mini soak packets. One floral one citrus.

A little Yankee Candle that’s French Vanilla.

And see that blue pouch there? That’s not just a pouch! It’s a handknit washcloth! And there was soap (Burt’s Bees) inside. Hey SP, what pattern is this? I love it!

A beautiful card came too!

Thanks SP!I feel very spoiled indeed! Perhaps this will inspire me to do some massive cleaning out tomorrow. I would love to have a whole mini van full of stuff to take up to my parents’ for the yard sale.

PS: if you’re going to be in Lancaster, PA on Saturday and like yard sales, there’s going to be a whole street of them… let me know if you need details.

SP12 – The Answers

I had so much fun in SP9 and SP10 that after a break I’m back in… this time it’s SP12!

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

I like soft stuff… who are we kidding, I like yarn stuff. I guess I would rather not have the sort of wool or acrylic that I knitted with in the 70s and 80s, but other than that, it’s all good. I am interested in trying out knitting with more exotic fibers.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?

At this point I use my Knitpicks Options almost exclusively and I store them in the black notebook thingie that came with the set originally when I bought them. I have also started storing all my small sock circs in there as well. My other needles are in a bag in the basement.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

My grandmother taught me to knit as a child. I knitted again in high school and college then restarted knitting a few years ago. I guess I’m an intermediate. I’m willing to try most anything, but have yet to do any designing.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

Sure do. Amazon is here and Loopy Ewe is here.

5. What’s your favorite scent?

Vanilla

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?

Do I ever. I like fruity, chewy candy best, think Starburst, Skittles, red fish. I also like other things like Three Musketeers, Snickers, York, pretty much anything!

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?

I don’t spin, and am trying hard to resist the urge. I sew and am hoping to do more sewing this summer. I used to scrapbook and I hope that organizing my stuff will inspire me.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

Pandora has forced me to admit that I like country, but old country. I also like folk, and singer-songwriter stuff. Pretty much I like words, and like to be able to understand them! I can play most any music.

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?

I like most every color. Off hand can’t think of any I don’t like. As far as a favorite I seem to go in cycles. Pink and brown are near the top now, but they could be replaced with the old standbys green and blue at any moment.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

I have a son who will be 6 in October, a husband who is quite a bit older than 6, and two cats, both over 6 but younger than the husband!

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?

Yes, yes, yes, no

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Socks, or maybe baby stuff. But I like to knit most anything!

13. What are you knitting right now?

One pair of socks, a sweater/jacket for Bunny, a dishcloth, and squares for a blanket. There are other wip, but those are the most active. I’m about to start a Hemlock Ring for a wedding gift.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?

Of course!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

I use my Knitpicks Options almost exclusively. I have both the metal and the wood. I have some Addi Turbos that I use for socks.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?

Both

17. How old is your oldest UFO?

mid 90s

18. What is your favorite holiday?

Any holiday that involves food or gifts!

19. Is there anything that you collect?

I collect Doc of the Seven Dwarfs

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

No knitting mags, there’s nothing I’m dying for at the moment, but plenty I would love, my wish lists are a start.

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?

A fair isle sweater for me is my next big adventure, steeking and everything.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?

I am, I wear a 7.5 shoe and my foot is about 9.5 inches around the instep (I think)

23. When is your birthday?

June 25 (it will be the big 40 this year… how did I get so old?)

24. Are you on Ravelry? If so, what’s your ID?

Sure am, I’m BethC
