Wallaby & Clapotis oh my!

Filed under: Knitting — by bethc @ 10:16 am

So sorry for the lack of blogging. There has been much working going on. There has been standards matching, grading, and even a fair amount of knitting!

I present my first Wonderful Wallaby! It was a pretty fast knit and I know that I will make more, in fact I already have the yarn to make one for Bunny. I will admit that the folksy style of the directions got to me a little, but I love that the pattern was named after a trip to the Henry Vilas Zoo, one of my favorite haunts from Madison days.

I knit it in Swish Superwash from KnitPicks and think I used a little more than four balls. Full details will appear in the FO section. I did make a few mistakes, but I’ll never tell! It will be on it’s way to baby Fiona who will turn a week old tomorrow. She’ll have a little time to grow into it.

I have also been knitting away on a Clapotis. I had bought two 3.5 oz skeins of sari silk a while ago and then got a 4 oz one from my SP9 so I thought I would make a small Clapotis. Let me say right now that there are problems with it, but I continue to knit blindly along in denial. The problems? Well, it’s going to be small, real small. I should have stopped the increases sooner. I may run out of yarn, this despite careful and extensive mathematics. The colors of the different skeins while looking similar in the balls look different knitted. It’s way itchy. I’m hoping that washing and blocking will help some with both the size and the itchyness. Any suggestions on what to use in washing this stuff to make it lovely and soft?

Tomorrow we leave for the Grade 6 retreat. Good side: lots of knitting time. Bad side: overnight with my students.

  1. Sorry to say, I have no ideas about the sari silk issue. But it looks nice. Maybe as a wall hanging? or a pillow?

  2. Love the wallaby! I wouldn’t tell about the mistakes either, especially since they aren’t visible at all!

I have no idea about the sari silk… sorry! Looks nice, though.
