Knitter’s Notebook

Filed under: Knitting — by bethc @ 8:59 am

There is knitting going on, just haven’t taken any pictures. I am working on a model for the 6th grade knitters who want to make little felted totes. All the knitting and stitching is done, tonight I felt. In this process it occurs to me that I really need a knitter’s notebook of some sort. I am not the lists and notebooks type so this came rather as a shock to me. Although you think it might have occurred to me when I couldn’t remember what size needles I used to swatch for the raglan and had to do it over…

So, what do you use? Just a regular notebook, or something made just for knitting? Do you like your system? Could someone like me, who operates more with piles than lists be converted? Inquiring minds want to know!

  1. I use a nice but not specifically made for knitting notebook. I start out by sticking in the label from the yarn, then making notes about the date, yarn, needles and pattern. I also use my blog – actually, that was one of the reasons I started a blog, to keep a record!

If you’re not a lists and notebook type, you could probably just use your blog, especially if you set up a category for each project you’re working on for easy access later. The notebook is handy for making notes as you go such as “oops, knit 2 extra rows on the front, must remember to do the same on the back”!

  2. Oh yes, I use notebooks…I was lost before i did! I am still not as organized as I would like to be…not even close! I use simple spiral notebooks. I have one for designs; one for 2007 knitting where I try to remember to write important notes. Admittedly, most of my notetaking is in my design notebook. i do have notebooks from last year that are a bit like reading Greek, which is why I’m trying to do better, lol!
I also use my blog this year, gauge, needle size, etc are included in my 2007 knitting album (I think …. lol!).

  3. Did wordpress just eat my comment. I had a big note about how I’m a swatchaholic, and save all of my swatches, and attach notes (on a business card from a set I got at staples) with all the info.

You could also use — the card catalog card generator (it generates an image – save it to your own server – then you don’t have to worry about that site going down). If you posted them to your blog you could use tags (does wordpress use tags? If not, try del.ic.ous or whatever it is) and sort them that way.

  4. I have a regular notebook I jot down notes in. I’m horrible with record keeping so it’s something at least. I also use the blog to try to make sure that I post details in case I ever have to refer back to it.
