Taking a Dive

Filed under: Knitting — by bethc @ 1:45 pm

Into the frog pond that is… I love the baby socks I made from STR lightweight in colorway Seal Rock so much that I couldn’t wait to start on the matching hat with the heavyweight. I know there are other things that I should be doing (need another hand towel for the wedding gift…) but I LOVE this yarn!

So I swatched. I calculated. I cast on (during tae kwon do). I knit round and round… and I started to notice something.

I thought it was my imagination. It couldn’t be that on every stitch I seemed to be knitting into the same color that the new stitch was.

I so wanted this to work… I really like baby hats, and have I mentioned, I love this yarn.

I started trying to save it. One round from one end of the ball, one end from another. I even cut the yarn and started in a new place. But in the end I had to come to the realization that one round was within two stitches of a color repeat… It just wasn’t meant to be, sniff.

So (again during tae kwon do) I frogged. Didn’t really enjoy it, but I did it. The decision was made.

Of course, since I love this yarn (have I mentioned that?), there had to be a new start. And soon… this baby’s not going to wait around on being born! So I have cast on for the kimono from Mason Dixon. I’m only a little way in, but the colors are looking great!!

  1. Your kimono was looking great last night! It was great to see you. Good luck with the sweater. 🙂

  2. I know it’s too late now, but I don’t think that pooling looks all that bad. But that’s a personal preference, I realize, so there’s no point in knitting something you hate. Such pretty yarn, though.

  4. those baby socks are so cute, like, stand-alone cute, if need be! i am one of the few knitters out there, i think, who are not anti-pooling, so i thought that hat looked absolutely perfect.

  5. I can’t wait to see that Kimono! I’m guessing it’s adorable. The baby socks look great. I like crankygrrrrl’s comment about “frogtober”. I guess you and I are not alone in the frog pond.

  6. Don’t you just love STR yarn? I have way too much stock and not enough time to make all my socks. Grrr.

Question for you, Beth. I’m new to the wordpress world (I’m going to convert from Live Journal) and I’m having a heck of a time adding a button (or what wp calls badges). I’ve added the following info to a text widget and it still doesn’t come up on my front page (well, a goofy box with a link back to wordpress shows). I see you have some buttons, do you think it’s my link to flickr? I’ve spent almost 2 hours on this and I’m just frustrated – haven’t gotten any good help from support either. Can you help me? Please?

Thanks so much for your help,
    Your SP9 Hostess
    Patty

  7. Looks like the actual code doesn’t show but I’ll try to do it again with using DOT instead of the period and I took out the beginning and ending brackets. That might now work either but I’ll see.

  9. It’s a pain when it does that and it’s not the effect you wanted. Sounds like the kimono is working out a lot better.
