Numerical Knitting

When I was in college back in the stone age (the 80’s) email was new. One of the features of our email system was a command “finger.” When you “fingered” someone it would show not only when they last logged on, but also who had sent the last email they received. One game I used to play was to pick a friend and “finger” him or her. Then I would see who sent the last email and “finger” that person and so on… It was one of those no winner kind of games, but was pretty good at killing time.

Why am I sharing this? Because I have recently adapted the game to “knitting blog finger.” I read a blog then read the blog of someone who left a comment, and then someone who left them a comment, and so on. Now there is a winner, me! I have found some great blogs this way. So join in! Follow those comments and see what you can find. Better yet, leave a comment and see who finds you. I figure any game that can amuse both a college student and a 30-something is a good game!

Actually knitting content to come soon…

PS A variation on the game is to follow swaps. Find someone who is thanking a swap pal, go there and find who sent to them, and so on. This version might even have a way to win, trace a whole swap ring and get back to the original post!

  1. You and I definitely grew up in different eras/states, because to me, “finger” conjures up some decidedly…inappropriate…connotations. Nevertheless, I’m off to explore your commenters!

  5. i was in college in the early 90’s and used the ‘finger’ function too…but we were able to see when/where a person was…a great way to locate friends in the pre-cellphone era.

i love to blog surf via comments. i figure if the comment was interesting, then the blog has to be too!! since i started my own blog i try to leave a comment whereever i surf…just cuz it’s nice to know that people are interested in you (or at least all the yarn pr0n)

  6. Great game idea. But then it goes to what I wrote on my blog today which is, how can you keep up with all the good blogs there are? My latest is checking out the blogs of all the bloggers who will be meeting up at Rhinebeck. You can literally get lost in Blogland.
And then we are expecte dto blog ourselves? Definitely a full time job.
